Meth is a stimulant that has been used to treat obesity and ADHD. During meth highs, addicts generally avoid eating, as they don’t feel hungry. However, during meth detox, patients generally feel the opposite of their highs. Where there was once a rush of energy, there’s now lethargy, and even cravings for carbohydrate heavy foods [1]. At Detox of Delray, we offer medially monitored Florida detox for meth addiction. We’ve put together some guidelines for safe drug detox foods.

What to Eat at a Detox Center in South Florida

While carbs are often the biggest food craving in meth withdrawals, carbs shouldn’t be the focus of drug detox foods. Patients should balance their starchy carbohydrates with other foods. While a plate can include one third carb-laden foods, there should also be a variety of fruits, vegetables, and meats. Here are some tips for healthy drug detox foods:

  • Focus on nutrient-rich foods. Give yourself a variety of nutrient-packed foods, such as fruits, whole grains, and breads. If you give into your carb cravings, make sure that at least half of your carb-rich, grain-based foods are whole-grain [2].
  • Don’t forget your protein. While you may be craving carbohydrates, proteins are also important drug detox foods. Choose lean proteins, and look for protein in alternate non-meat formats, such as beans or tofu.
  • Drink plenty of water. Dehydration is a common problem during detox, which is why we watch all patients for signs of dehydration during medically monitored Florida detox. Be sure to stay hydrated during your detox and beyond.

There are many drug detox foods that can help patients have comfortable detoxification experiences. Remember, nutritious foods are here to replace what can be depleted during the detox process. With medical supervision, therapeutic support, and nutritional guidance, meth detox can be a smooth process.
